Learning to Create a New Life...

After the Loss of Your Partner

This is a website for anyone who has suffered the loss of a partner at any age, and who is wondering ‘what do I do now?’

It is a difficult and a lonely journey after losing your partner but if you have experienced this devastating loss I’m here to tell you from my personal experience that you CAN find your way back to a full and rich life, a life of passion and purpose even though you are alone. It takes time and patience and compassion for yourself and the difficult journey you are on. Yes, your life is changed forever. But it can still be meaningful and good. You can renew your hopes, make new dreams and work on making them come true. You can learn to be self-centered in the best possible meaning of the words.
In the few minutes it took for the doctor to diagnose my husband with a kind of dementia called Pick’s disease, my world collapsed. I never thought I would live through the next months and years, the grief, loneliness and depression. But I did. And while I was teaching myself how to do it, I kept a journal that eventually turned into my book, Moving to the Center of the Bed: The Artful Creation of a Life Alone.

Every person's story is unique. But we can gain comfort and understanding from each other. I hope my story will be meaningful and inspirational to all of you and that it will help you to move forward in your own lives.

The following words have given me a great deal of courage. I hope you will be strengthened by them as well.
You cannot be given a life by someone else.
Of all the people you will know in a lifetime,
You are the only one you will never leave nor lose.
To the question of your life, you are the only answer.
To the problems of your life, you are the only solution.
